My CyberGRX Journey: Michael Espenschied

In this reoccurring series, we speak with CyberGRX team members about why they joined the company, what their experience has been like, and what they're looking forward to the most.

Here we chat with Michael Espenschied, Enterprise Account Executive.

How long have you been with CyberGRX?

6 months.

Why did you select CyberGRX over other employment opportunities?

CyberGRX checked the boxes for me in many ways, which is why I decided to leave my previous role and company, despite really enjoying it. Since CyberGRX is a smaller company that shows promise for tremendous growth, I like that I’m able to help build something.

Also, the company is evolving, and I liked the executive team's direction, the product is unique in the industry, and the vision is to transform an industry.

Finally, there is the promise of opportunities to take on leadership responsibilities.

How has your job changed over your time here? Please list titles, the amount of time at each position/level, speak to how responsibilities have grown/changed.

As an Account Executive, I joined the company as their first new sales hire to build out a new way of going to market. In the 6 months I have been here, I have been able to contribute to the sales process and have visibility into how a company builds out a sales team. I have learned processes that will help me in future leadership roles, but also developed a confidence in my own knowledge and skills that I brought to the table.

What keeps you at CyberGRX?

Despite only being here 6 months,I have really enjoyed the people I work with, and watching the culture evolve. I am also optimistic about the growth as I have seen there is a real need for our product in almost every industry and in companies of all different sizes.

One other thing is that for its size, the company is very thoughtful about diversity and inclusion. It is talked about a lot, and I know there is investment happening to get even better. I am part of the diversity committee, and we are working through ideas and ways to make us even better.

What is one piece of advice you’d give to someone just starting out at CyberGRX?

Take initiative, and bring your skills to the table. Don't be afraid to make a mistake.

Where do you see yourself professionally in 3 years?

I'll be a Prince or Duke and launching my own lines of champagne out of southern France.

If not, I'll be a leader within the sales organization at a tech company.

How does the leadership team help set the vision for the company and how does that trickle down to the individual departments?

Leadership is very transparent with product roadmaps and expected employee and revenue growth, and in my experience and department, the message comes straight from the top.

What most excites you about the future of CyberGRX, cybersecurity, and/or your career path?

Growing with the company, and being a part of its history. In 5 years, I'd love to be seen as someone who had a direct impact on the success of the business.
