Get to Know CyberGRX: Meet Mark Herrlinger

Meet Mark, Director of Exchange Services

1. Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Dayton, Ohio, former home of the Wright Brothers and the international headquarters for the National Cash Register Company (NCR) for 125 years. It is also home of the official museum of the United States Air Force. I left Dayton and moved to Palm Beach, Florida when I was thirteen but remember it being a magical place. People are very friendly in the Midwest.

2. What brought you to CyberGRX?
How often does one get a chance to get in on the ground floor of a company that is based on such a great idea? I was working as an independent business consultant and CyberGRX presented the right mix of challenges inherent in a startup and the opportunity of working with such a great team and product.

3. What do you do at CyberGRX/what’s your typical day like?
I never know exactly where my day will take me. My day is usually a mix of proactively monitoring the Exchange, overseeing all customer and third-party environments, creative problem solving, software testing, strategic planning and generally making sure that operationally everything runs smoothly. I also oversee our own third-party risk management program so I am officially the only staff member that actually uses our platform as it was designed to be used as part of their job. My typical day has me interacting with nearly every member of every department.

4. What advice would you give to your teenage self?
Keep your powder dry. Be careful of what you wish for. Quality over quantity. Respect your elders.

5. What has had the greatest impact on your life?
I’m six months away from celebrating my 20th wedding anniversary. My wife and two children, aged 16 and 12 are amazing. They keep me smiling.

6. What’s your hidden super power?
I can write backwards in cursive mirror writing. My backwards handwriting, when shown in a mirror, matches my regular handwriting. It seems so natural that it surprised me when I discovered that many people can’t do it.  My mother could do it as well.
