Meet Colleen McGarity, VP of People Operations

Meet Colleen, VP of People Operations

1. Where did you grow up?

I grew up Maryland – crab cakes and football!  Actually I don’t enjoy eating seafood and it was terribly inconvenient growing up around it all the time…

2. What brought you to CyberGRX?

I am a bit of a startup junkie at this point, but I was drawn to CyberGRX primarily by the connection between the Cyber Security industry and company culture.  The company has a real life line of security running through it, both in the security practitioners that work here and what we are trying to solve for our customers.  Being a part of a living and breathing cyber security culture connects us that much more deeply to our mission and vision!

3. What do you do at CyberGRX/what’s your typical day like?

As VP of People Operations, I oversee all strategic people initiatives, including performance management, talent acquisition, culture, engagement, retention, benefits and payroll administration and day-to-day facilities.  Of course, this isn’t done alone and we have a small, but MIGHTY, People Ops team who are the true rock stars of keeping CyberGRX an awesome place to work!

4. What advice would you give to your teenage self?

Play more golf – you are 5’3 and your hopes of becoming the next Serena Williams just physically aren’t possible and won’t serve you in life…literally.

5. What has had the greatest impact on your life?

Stumbling upon Human Resources and Talent Acquisition as a career.  I truly love what I do and have a passion for it and I often find people are still searching for their true calling well into their thirties.  On top of that, having a thriving tech scene and culture in Denver has been the perfect platform for me to continue to grow and keep doing what I love in a dynamic, challenging environment just 30 minutes from the mountains.

6. What’s your hidden superpower?

Not sure I’d call this a superpower, but I’ve never had an issue with being really direct and honest with people.  I will blame my east coast upbringing, and it certainly has gotten me in trouble from time to time, but I think being open and honest is the only way to operate as a human, coworker and manager.  Oh, and how animated I can get watching a Clemson football game.
