Meet Brian, Vice President of Customer Experience

1. Where did you grow up? 

I was born in Long Beach, CA but grew up in Huntington Beach, CA.  I spent 30+ years behind the “orange curtain,” as the saying goes; “orange curtain” pertaining to Orange County.  Along the way, I resided within a 15-mile radius from where I grew up including college where I attended the University of California, Irvine having studied Criminology, Law and Society and 18th – 20th Century Spanish Art History.  NO, “The Real Housewives of Orange County” is NOT a representation of the community at large…YES I watch the show…no judgement.

2. What brought you to CyberGRX? 

Honestly, I wasn’t in the market for a career change…at least I thought I wasn’t.  CyberGRX reached out to me and after each conversation, I grew more passionate and excited about the company, its culture, their value in the cyber security space at large, and the business model itself.  Opportunities to work for a clear market leader, collaborate with design partners to grow and perfect the model, and define / foster a unique company culture do not present themselves too often.  I even gave up working from home (15 years running) to commute daily (45 mins+) – if that doesn’t speak volumes, I got nuthin’!

3. What do you do at CyberGRX/what’s your typical day like? 

I serve as Vice President, Customer Experience and if I had a typical day, I wouldn’t be here!  Within the past 5 months, I’ve been able to grow the team by 200% with exceptional, dedicated talent.  I’m implementing various Customer Experience tools that will accelerate time to value and drive CSAT (Customer Satisfaction); allowing for more consultative program management to our Customers through actionable analytics.  Through cross-functional efforts, the business is launching a more customer-centric go-to-market approach including product synergies aligned to Customer / market demands.  I hold regular 1:1 meetings with each team member, allowing for transparent conversations that drive performance and professional development paths.  I BELIEVE in what we’re doing here – which energizes me and inspires me to show up and be present each and every day for my team, peers, and the company at large.  Typical isn’t in my vocabulary…and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

4. What advice would you give to your teenage self? 

Oh boy, this could get deep fast so I’ll keep it relatively light. “You won’t always be rail thin (in fact, you will be embarking on the macro diet in the future as a direct result of your passion for Domino’s pizza – free plug, I expect free lava cakes!).  Life is a continuous learning stream – you WILL fail but learn from your mistakes and don’t beat yourself up. Yes, most people NEVER outgrow their fear of spiders (this is not up for debate).  Last, but certainly not least, you ARE loved and you ARE ok!”

5. What has had the greatest impact on your life? 

Lessons learned from my mother and my husband – in some ways vastly different and in others, very similar. My mom laid the foundation for who I am today as a friend, co-worker, husband, and functioning member of society.  I learned a great deal from her, including what TO do and what NOT to do; much of this tutelage came well after the lessons should have been learned.  Her passing made me stronger in ways I didn’t know I could be.  My husband is my absolute rock: truly the most patient person I’ve ever met (just don’t leave dishes in the sink…wow!), an unbiased sounding board on how to navigate through life as my best authentic self, challenges me to step back on occasion, separate myself from work, and enjoy the journey.

6. What’s your hidden super power? 

This is embarrassing but will often manifest itself if I’m out with my team for team building events…but I can snap my fingers inappropriately loud.  Super? Not so much?  Power?  It does come in handy when I need to shoo-away spiders!
