What advice would you give someone who wants to join CyberGRX?

So you want to be a part of CyberGRX? Why? I ask your why because being drawn to CyberGRX means being drawn here for the purpose of change. Change in our industry and change within ourselves. This is not just a job, so know your why.

What is your definition of “happiness”? 

Happiness for me is a personal feeling of gratitude for what I have accomplished, acceptance of the things I cannot change, and an appreciation of the person I was, am and will become, regardless of what the world tries to tell me.

What was your first job?

My first job was a bagger at a grocery store when I was in high school. During our late-shift we did silly things like race up the isles with the electric carts and had water gun fights with the cleaning solution. We got away with a lot because my classmate's mother was the supervisor. But it also taught me life responsibilities like what it means to earn money and how to manage time when you have multiple demands.

What is some of the best advice you've ever received?

The best advice I ever receive was that “Nothing worth doing is ever easy, it’s the challenge that really makes it worthwhile.”  It was from my father and it’s something he drilled into me from a pretty early age.

What is some advice for people early in their career?

It's easy to get lost trying to achieve lofty heights. Take time for you, pursue hobbies and spend time with people you care about. You’ll be surprised at the effect it has on you.

What is the coolest thing you're working on?

Pretty sure it has to be the Kubernetes powered smoker. I built every piece of it from the electronics and the smoker itself to all the software that’s driving it. As a result I have a smoker that I can control from anywhere, at any time, and that has extremely precise temperature control.

What can we find you doing on Sunday mornings?

On Sunday mornings you can usually find me wandering around my kitchen thinking about what to cook for breakfast. It’s one of my favorite meals to make because it's generally very simple but also delicious. Recently I’ve been on a kick trying different styles of Dutch Baby.

What was your favorite summertime activity as a kid?

I love to swim and would always be at the pool in the town I grew up in. I could spend all day there with my family and friends.

What is some advice for people early in their career?

Always be willing to learn. No matter where you are in your career there will always be something to learn. Showing that you are open to continuous learning will always be a valued attribute.

Do you have any skills or talents that most people don't know about?

I am conversational in American Sign Language. I started learning when I was 5 years old.

What advice would you give someone who wants to join CyberGRX?

Always be willing to ask for help. This is something that will only strengthen your knowledge and work at CyberGRX. It can also lead to additional skill building that can help you further your career.
